The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized an Online Session on RoDTEP - Theme : FTP & RoDTEP – Overview, Benefits, Challenges & Way Forward on 23rd September, 2021 on Zoom.

Introductory Address was given by Mr T. B. Chatterjee, Chairperson – Indirect Taxes Committee, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry & Partner, TCN Global and Economic Advisory Services LLP.

He addressed the 1st Technical Session on Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) with regard to Export and Import, major incentives under the current FTP (2015-20), 15th Finance Commission's Report on International Trade and the major changes as proposed by GST Council at the meeting dt.17.08.2021.

The 2nd Technical Session focussed on Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP). The Ministry of Commerce & Industry has recently notified the much-awaited rates under the Scheme for RoDTEP.

Mr. Sanjeev Nandwani, Ex Additional Director General of Foreign Trade & Development Commissioner — Falta Economic Zone discussed on the background of RoDTEP Scheme with reference to WTO's direction, and major principles followed by the Committee while fixing the RoDTEP Rates. He also shared international experiences with regard to the Incentives / Rebates/ Remission provided by other countries. 

Detailed RoDTEP scheme as per Notification dated 17.8.2021 was deliberated by Mr. M. S. Mani, Co Chairperson - Indirect Taxes Committee, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry & Partner, Deloitte India. He had also drawn a comparison of RoDTEP benefit vs previous MEIS Scheme and discussed how to handle the issues where the Rate is significantly lower than the actual impact of taxes and procedural formalities for claiming the Benefits. 

The Technical Sessions were followed by interactions with the participants. The Online Session on RoDTEP was attended by more than 50 delegates.
