Ratnagarbha- as the name suggests is a unique initiative of The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry, where the Chamber pays tribute to the Mothers of celebrated children.
Ratnagarbha, is one of the flagship programmes of The Bengal Chamber with a major social focus. Conceived to felicitate the mothers of celebrated personalities, the BCC&I Ratnagarbha is more than just an award. It is our humble salute on International Women’s Day to the nurturer of rare gems.
For the past seven years, The Chamber has aided by creating the platform, where the celebrated child can acknowledge the contribution of their mother by felicitating and thanking her in public. Using this platform created by The Chamber, we request the son / daughter to pay homage in the form of a Memento as a token of appreciation for the silent role she played throughout the journey of her child’s life.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Deb A Mukherjee, President, The Bengal Chamber reitereted the effort of the Chamber to keep evolving, and keeping that tradition in mind, continue its legacy this year by paying a special tribute to the “Mothers’ of our Leading Lights” from the sectors of Business, Sports, Film, Healthcare and Literature along with The Bengal Chamber Lifetime Achievement Award.
Mr. Subrata Dutta, Chairperson, Sports Development Committee, said "On this occasion of International Women's Day we are glad to honour the mothers of those who have made us proud by their contribution in their respective field. Mother and child is the best relationship in the world and perhaps the only relationship based on selfless Love. Mothers have the highest contribution for the success of a person. She is the only person who remains with us as our best friend as long as she lives. I express my heartfelt respect to all the women on the earth for whom I feel everyday is their day."
This Year, the awards were handed over in five different categories and there was Lifetime Achievement Award.
Ms. Gouri Karmakar, mother of Olympian Gymnast, Ms. Dipa Karmakar was awarded Ratnagarbha in the Sports category. Dipa and her parents flew down from Tripura for this award and thanked The Chamber for this honour.
In the Healthcare category Dr. Abhijit Chowdhury’s mother Smt. Priti Chowdhury could not attend the event due to her ill health, so Mr. Tanmoy Banerjee, Co- Chairperson of the Sports Development Committee went to her residence to honour her for her son’s untiring effort in treating the ailing patients.
Dr. Sumita Sarkar, Mother of noted Film Director Mr. Srijit Mukherjee was felicitated in the Film category.
Ms. Jamuna Chandra, Mother of Mr. Pranab Chandra owner of Bengal’s famous snack brand Mukharochak was awarded Ratnagarbha in the Business Category.
In the Social service category this year we had Mrs. Shila Kundu, mother of Mr. Chandrasekhar Kundu who has taken responsibility of feeding 1200 children every day in Asansol region. He also runs charitable dispensary and schools for around 1500 underprivileged children in various locations. His mother, Mrs. Shila Kundu, requested all the dignitaries present, to bless and support her son in this noble cause.
This year, the Lifetime Achievement Award of Bengal Chamber was given to Shri Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay for his immense contribution in the field of Bengal Literature.
The event was also embellished through a musical performance by noted singer Ms. Jojo, while celebrity anchor Mr. Saheb Chattopadhyay conducted the programme.
