BCC&I steps on time, two-day Heritage walk in association with Caring Minds, 9th & 10th January, Dalhousie, Kolkata
The Heritage Committee of the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized a two-day Heritage walk around Dalhousie in association with Caring Minds on 9th & 10th January 2021, from 7.30 a.m. – 9.30 a.m. People pass by the beautiful heritage buildings every day in a hurry without noticing their finer points. Keeping this in mind BCC&I felt that as Heritage of a city communicates the history and evolution of that place, a walk will be a tool to explore the unexplored and largely ignored richness of the repository of built heritage of the city. It will play an important role in evoking an interest in the history and character of the city and the various communities which have contributed to its growth.
The Walk started from The Bengal Chamber - Calcutta Gallery – proceeded southwards 🡪 Eastern Railway HQ - Fairlie Place 🡪 GPO - turn westwards 🡪 Bankshall Court - Hare Street to Church Lane 🡪 High Court 🡪 Assembly House 🡪 Town Hall 🡪 Treasury Buildings - turn left to Council House Street 🡪 St John's Church 🡪 Raj Bhavan 🡪 Standard Insurance Bldg 🡪 Dead Letter Office 🡪 Currency Building 🡪 St Andrew's Kirk 🡪 Writers Building/Lal Dighi 🡪 Stock Exchange – and ended with Breakfast at BCC&I. Both days Mr. G M Kapur, Chairperson, Heritage Committee lead the walk along with Ms. Reshmi Chatterjee, Co-Chairperson, Heritage Committee.
A total of 40 participants joined the Walk. The Walk was inaugurated by Shri Debasish Kumar, MMIC Parks and Garden, Sports, Advertisement, Parking and Hawkers Rehabilitation Schemes, Urban Forestry, KMC, Mr. Gianluca Rubagotti, Consul General, Consulate General of Italy, Mr. Auster Manfred, Consul General, Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Shri Goutam De, Director, ICCR, Dr. Sayan Bhattacharya, Education Officer, India Museum along with senior Committee Members of Heritage Committee.
