2nd Edition of the Annual Power Conference on ‘New Power Dynamics: Greening the GRID and RTM’, 8th October 2020, Virtual Platform


The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the 2nd Edition of the Annual Power Conference on ‘New Power Dynamics: Greening the Grid and RTM’ on 8th October 2020. Like previous year, TERI is the Knowledge Partner in this edition as well.

The Chamber believes that it is an opportune time to discuss, share information and engage in dialogues on RTM in the backdrop of the energy mix of the country.

RTM or Real Time Market introducing power exchange functions on the lines of a commodity trading platform, allowing the purchase and sales of electricity, is the latest milestone in the power dynamics of India being introduced on 1st June 2020. 

The aim is to have a regional power grid that includes Myanmar, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The plan has gained traction with India moving ahead for an ambitious global electricity grid and calling for bids to roll-out the “One Sun One World One Grid" (OSOWOG) plan.


The Conference was commenced with the formal Welcome Address by Mr. Deb A Mukherjee, President Designate, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Managing Director, Cenergist Energy Private Limited.

The Opening Session was graced by Shri  Sutirtha Bhattacharya, Chairperson, West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission; Shri S. Suresh Kumar, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Power, Government of West Bengal and Mr. KVS Baba, Chairman and Managing Director, Power System Operation Corporation. Mr. Gautam Ray, Chairperson, Energy and Environment Committee, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Executive Director (HR & Admin.) - CESC Limited & President (HR) – Power Group, RPSG moderated the Opening Session. The eminent Speakers during this session shared their vision for Energy in India. 

Mr. S. R. Narasimhan, Director (System Operation), POSOCO chaired the Session on Greening the Grid (with Energy Mix). The Session was graced by Mr. Ravindra Kadam, Advisor (Renewable Energy), Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC); Mr. A K Saxena, Senior Fellow and Director, Electricity and Fuel Division, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI); Shri S K Soonee, Advisor and Former CEO, POSOCO; Mr. Bibhu Prasad Mahapatra, Director Finance, UP GENCO & TRANSCO and Mr. Sanjoy Mukherjee, Vice President (DT), CESC Limited. Mr. S. R. Narasimhan, Director (System Operation), POSOCO chaired the Session.

The Session on Power Trading - RTM (Real Time Market)- was chaired by Mr. Vinod Kumar Agarwal, Technical Director (SARI/EI) / IRADE & Former Executive Director, POSOCO. Mr. Hans-Arild Bredesen, CEO, Nord Pool Consulting; Mr. Rajesh Mediratta, Director, Indian Energy Exchange Limited; Mr. Sameer Ch. Saxena, Senior General Manager, NLDC, POSOCO; Mr. Sanket Srivastava,Head Power Purchase,Noida Power Company Limited and Mr. Devanand Pallikuth, Head - PSCC, Tata Power were the eminent speakers of the session.


Mr. Arun Kumar Mukherjee, Mentor, Energy and Environment Committee, The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry delivered the session by his concluding remarks.
